"Off With their Heads!"

Here are photos from the Alice in Wonderland journal I just finished. I blew up two of the characters then paper pieced on top of them. Some of the layers are flat where others are foam mounted up. They pages turned out pretty good I think. I hope the owner of this book likes them. I have not gotten the next journal but should this weekend since we pass off again.

Cool Ribbon Banners

Check out these fun banners I made! A friend gave me these ribbons and I wish I could remember the company that makes them but they are so whimsical. I decided to use these fabric flowers and turn them into banners. The above one is on the door going into my studio.
Here is a close-up of a couple of the flowers. They have such wonderful sayings printed on them. Sometimes I wish I could run off and join the circus!! LOL

Solder House Class With Sally Jean Alexander

Sally Jean Alexander http://sallyjean.com/ came to town to teach last week. I took this wonderful house class with her on Friday. It was so much fun! It lights up with a balloon light. Very cool!

Here are some close-ups of what I added to the inside of my house.

Fun Hanging Mobile Class I Took

Really cool class I took at Stamp Asylum today. It was taught by Joni Russell from Artful Illusions. http://www.mrsolearysart.com/oleary.html It is made from these little wire hangers that look vintage but of course are reproductions. Cool never the less. This is a close-up of one of the tags. I covered the clock on the stamped image with a plastic watch face. I added loose watch parts inside it so they move around under the plastic.
The tags are all stamped then ribbons and collage fodder is added. Some is glued directly to the tag and others are popped up with pop dots.
Love the hands on this one holding one of the stamped images. Gotta have that stamp!

Metal rimmed tags are stamped and hang below the tags. Joni did other classes at the store this weekend too. Hopefully she can come back in October to teach again. Watch the Stamp Asylum blog for more details http://stampasylum.blogspot.com/

First Alice Journal

This is the first of the Alice journals I have received to work in. I painted this background using acrylics and a credit card. The border, Madhatter and the Rabbit are from a digital kit I bought online from Scrapbook Graphics http://www.scrapbookgraphics.com .
I sewed the mushroom using some brightly colored fabric I have and put batting behind it to make it more dimensional.

The flower spray is from Prima. I did add some stickles to some of the flowers.
This has been fun and I am waiting on the second journal. We swap again on the 15th.

Alice in Wonderland Journal Swap

I joined a swap with the theme of Alice in Wonderland. Here is the journal I created. This is the front cover. I found an embroidery hoop with a wood grain finish and it worked perfect for the clock. There is plastic on the hoop to enclose it and I placed watch parts inside. So they move around like a shaker box. I made the clock face on the computer. The journal is made from a book and I took out the pages from the inside. Covered the the spine, front and back with papers and bookbinding cloth. I made a compartment to hide a card. From the front of the book you see a "pull here" tab when the card is in and the book is closed. In the picture above the card is pull out for viewing.
The spine has a bottle and I placed a "drink me" tag on it. I also placed some clear charms on the spine. The inside end papers are more decorative papers and the signatures are placed in the binder mechanism for easy removal.
The card on the right in this photo is the actual invitation to the swap. Pretty cool isn't it? I found those white roses in the wedding section at Hancock Fabrics. They are on netting and made from ribbon. Loved them and thought they would work great in my journal, but I could also use them in another book.
The little book on the right of this page is one that the hosts put together for us participants. It tells us who we are passing the journals to each month and the timeline to keep us on track, and other important info we need.
This is my "sign-in" page. Each person that works in my journal will decorate a teapot, then place it in the harlequin patterned pocket. I also typed up a greeting and directions for working in my book. I left it open and the participants can do any technique they want.

We swapped last Monday so I received my friend Donna's journal, and will work on it this week, I hope. We have a month to complete the books each time we switch. Should be plenty of time to get them done. Of course life sometimes gets in the way, and you never know when you might get behind. I will post her journal after I work in it.
